Rebranding of Plymouth

I have been working with two other students, Mario Picariello and Iain Rex on the rebranding of Plymouth with the city council and Lloyd Northover, a london based design agency. We were tasked with the market research for the project and presenting back the 'stories of Plymouth and its hidden opportunities' which we went to London on 19th March to do. Went really well, they loved what we did, and what a great experience too!

Amazing designer...

I have always been inspired by work that is unique, illustrative and just damn cool - maybe because it is something so far away from my own styles. I came across Michael Paukners flickr this morning and what i saw just blew me away. Some incredible information design going on there, and after visiting his website his work spans across product design, web design, branding and so on. What an inspiration.

Exeter Deaf Academy

I took the morning off today to visit Exeter Deaf Academy, met and talked with a teacher who was Deaf (with a signer too!), and got lots of help, guidance and advice with the new brief. They are a fantastic team over there doing some great work. Really inspirational and has got me really excited about what I am trying to accomplish.

They are also trying to raise money, as they are a charity, to build a new building to teach in. Having seen the plans it looks like it could really help the deaf community so please check them out and give them a hand. Alternatively look and if you are inspired, drop them a line and tell them so! :-)

Best shop in Plymouth...

Mario, Iain and myself are currently working for the city council and Lloyd Northover, a branding company in London, for the re-branding of Plymouth that is taking place over the next few months.

We have currently been set the task of going out and doing some market research into the people of Plymouth, what they like, what they think are its most positive aspects, what their aspirations for the city is and so forth. Whilst doing so we found this hidden gem of an antiques store. I could spend hours exploring it - and thousands of pounds whilst I am at it. Lucky for me Mario pulled me away to do some more work... but think I will be going back soon!!

Recent Graduates lecture

The Designers Society hosted a recent graduates lecture on the 3rd March 2010. This was an amazing lecture not only because it ran so smoothly but also because of the advice given. What a great networking opportunity for all and I think I made two fantastic new friends!

27 February 2010

I recently visited 'Bath' and one of the most exciting things I found was when visiting the Postal Museum and there was one of the first receipts from post by carriage. The letter s appears much more like an f but a very beautiful letterform it is!

one of the best short films I have seen...

I remember this coming out about a year and a half ago and it was one of the best short films I had seen in a long time. Even at that point I had to share it around. Communication can be so simple yet effective. Watch and see what you think.

4 Designers

4 Designers Conference, 22-23rd February.

Not only did we hear many top exciting designers speak about their experiences in design, but I also arranged for the society to visit the Pentagram office in London where Domenic Lippa met us to talk us through the history of Pentagram and show us around the office. What a great break away it was :-)

Thank you Pentagram!

First CD bought in over 2 years!?

I never buy any CD's anymore. However we can sometimes make exceptions. Not only is it a really interesting design but interactive too! (I am still to scratch off the foil area off!)

Music is usually online now so if companies want CD's to be bought - then they need to feature great designs or have some degree of interactivity. What makes a CD special enough to be bought?

MY GRAPHIC MIND...

There is now a funky new portfolio to accompany the web site for 'my graphic mind' with lots of hidden goodies to show inside...
